Part of Tender Tender

A refurbished and brightly painted vintage temporary tattoo machine sits atop a matching pedestal. Three screens are embedded in the machine, each playing looped video content of hands massaging text onto a series of different bodies. The text is on temporary tattoos that stretch and move with breaths and by the stretching and pulling of the hand massaging the flesh. The video footage is filtered such that the skin glows a hot magenta. When viewers use their quarters to activate the machine, it dispenses a small artist book printed in reverse onto a temporary tattoo. To read the text, viewers must apply the temporary tattoo to their own or someone else’s skin.

Gallery visitors get the quarters they need to operate the machine from a gumball machine (not pictured) that gives thme away freely.
